Brief History Of The

Mercy Memorial School

The great demand for a good English medium School was the need of the area in the trans G.T part of the Kanpur city known as Kidwai Nagar. Responding to the need, Late. Mrs. Sophie Shukla established a school in the Y’ Block in 1983 as a tribute to the memory of her worthy sister Miss Mercy Roberts. This was done through the aegis of Huddard Junior High School Society, primarily for the education of Christian Children, but it also allowed its institutions to admit children irrespective of caste or creed.
The school in its first month admitted around 500 children. The good respond for more sections and higher classes the management purchased 1.5 acres of land for the school in close vicinity.
The missionary spirit and endless strenuous efforts by both Miss Mercy Roberts and Mrs. Sophie Shukla, the management succeeded in getting the school affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations – New Delhi in January 1990.
The extraordinary mission left behind by Mrs. Sophie Shukla in 1985 is carried on by her daughter Miss Rajni Shukla who is ceaselessly dedicated to the service the school and in years the hard ceaseless efforts has taken the school to greater heights. Today the name of the school is to recon with, the school with the humble beginning of 500 students has crossed 4000. All Glory to the Lord Almighty.
Late Mr. V. J Abraham was the first principal of this prestigious school. He shaped the destiny of this school which will go down in the history of the school. After his demise Mr. John Ghosh served the institution from 1992 – 1996.
In 1998 Mr. T.T. Thomas took over as the Principal and brought laurels. He took the institution to greater heights of name, fame and goodwill at the council level.
In 2008 Mr. Joy Mathew joined and left in 2017.
It was a day of rejoicing when Mr. T.T. Thomas joined back in 2017. The school is doing well under his dynamic personality.
